Happy New Year

I hope everyone had a great Christmas.

There will be no homework this week other than reading for 15 minutes each evening.

Here is what we will be working on for the next little while:

Math:

Measurement:

-estimate, measure, and record length, height, and distance, using standard units (i.e., centimetre, metre, kilometre)

-read time using analogue clocks, to the nearest five minutes, and using digital clocks

– estimate, read and record positive temperatures to the nearest degree Celsius

 – identify benchmarks for freezing, cold, cool, warm, hot, and boiling temperatures

*There are links on the right to help your child with time and measurement.

Number Sense:

We have been working hard on improving our addition skills by doing number talks on a regular basis.   Ask your child what  number talk is.

Checkout my twitter feed on the left side of the main blog (remember if you are on a mobile device you will need to view it as full web version).  There is a very good link called 'Helping Students Master Basic Facts' that you will find very helpful (about 3 tweets down).

Reading:

We will be working on the reading comprehension strategy of inferencing. When you read with your child at night as them to make inferences while they are reading. Here are some sentence starters:

Writing:

We will begin to explore explanatory texts.

The Arts:

We are continuing to explore creative movement and choreographed dance.
